The friendship of Jesus is beyond compare. That He is creator of the universe, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and yet calls me His friend, is beyond human comprehension. None the less, He came down to serve, to even wash the feet of one of the disciples. As unworthy as we are of His care and friendship, without it we are utterly dead and dirty with sin before a holy God, and no chance of life beyond the grave. Our only hope is in the friendship of Christ and allowing Him to wash us completely. Jesus said to Peter, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” May we all learn as Peter did, to humble ourselves and cry “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” It may not seem right for the master to wash the servant, until we realize that it is the only way to friendship with God.
