Day 4 – Walking Humbly with Our God

“He has shown you oh man, what is good, and what the Lord requires of you. To do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God.”

Micah 6:8

Walking humbly with the Lord isn’t ever easy, but it is always necessary if we are to know the greatness of His grace.

“God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

James 4:6

When we ought to be humble, is when we most often fill with pride. When we are heavy in heart because of trials, when we are poor and shaken by life, we often look away from Him in disagreement with His plan. It may not register this way in the moment, but this is pride at the core, and pride is always of the devil and destructive to all.

The Scriptures give us insight into not only a good thing that God desires for us, but something that is actually a requirement for all of God’s children. When a good, holy, loving God, requires something of His children, it is good and beneficial for us when we follow. We must follow.

The requirement is to “walk humbly” with Him. The Lord of all creation is willing to go with us as we walk. Jesus is our example, our light, our standard, and when we see Him as we walk daily, when we gaze upon His perfection, can we be anything but humbled in His glorious presence, and receive from Him the grace to go on? What if we are not looking at Him, but looking inward instead? What if we focus on the circumstance itself? When we do this we fail to see that God is ever present, and soon begin to question His plan, thinking we would be better in another situation. Have we forgotten that there is no better place to be than in His presence? Being with God in the midst of poverty, pain, and fear is infinitely better than a life of pure ease, but apart from His presence.

“If God is for us then who can be against us?”

Romans 8:31

Oh, how soon we forget these promises.

“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”

1 Timothy 1:17

The invisible, Holy God is with us in the midst of all that is very visible, and often painful. He is wise beyond compare. Even in His allowing some pain or much pain in our lives, He is good. The King, Jesus is leading us. He is our God, our Good Shepherd. He is beautiful to look upon, and though we are unholy, He has chosen to look upon us in love. When He is our joy, and our focus is upon Him, we will walk and not stumble into self-seeking pride. When we walk in humility, we see grace in a more glorious light, a light that would otherwise be clouded by pride. It is in this grace and light that we stand firm and continue to walk with Him, abounding in every good work.

“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency, in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

2 Corinthians 9:8

Father, You alone can humble the most prideful heart. Thank-You for humbling me with Your grace, and for walking with me wherever I go. May You be my focus and my joy every day. Help me to never question Your plan, but to accept it as good and best for me and perfect for Your glorification.
