He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. – Ephesians 5:29-30
Pay attention husbands.
Do you see the instruction? Christ came to clothe, feed, care for, rescue, redeem, restore, and cherish the Church; His bride. Why? Because it glorifies Him.
He does not hate his bride.
He loves her for her, and that brings him glory.
The greatest display of His own glory was to love Her, the Church. And that’s us.
What does this mean for husbands?
When we choose to love and care for our wives with Christ-like love, putting her first, we are taking the best care of ourselves.
But when we seek our own interests and passions, and she suffers because of it, we are actually hating ourselves.
So, men, don’t be foolish. Love your wife purely for her good. That is what glorifies God. That is what honors your own body too and pleases the Lord Jesus.
